This is a red for hot days. Or balmy evenings, at least. Made from the Gamay grape, it’s best known as the grape behind Beaujolais but here it is feeling quite at home in New Zealand’s Hawke’s Bay. Light and juicy with lots of red fruit flavours – redcurrant, raspberries – and properly fresh too. Not cheap but refreshingly different and beautifully made. Stick it in the fridge for half an hour before drinking to make the flavours really pop.
