Normally I’m wary of really cheap wines. That’s not to say I don’t love a bargain (I absolutely do) but given that we pay £2.23 in tax on a bottle of wine, once you add in production, shipping and distribution costs along with VAT and the retailer’s cut, there isn’t much left for the wine if it’s really, really cheap. I’m seeing lots more on shelves for less than £4 at the moment and most are drinkable at best, but pretty dull overall. This fresh, lemony white though. It’s an absolute cracker made from the Viura grape by a biggish producer (think economies of scale). Simple but delicious.
