Chilly weather calls for wine like this, with its gorgeous mellow mix of black fruits, spice and vanilla. This one is made by one of the smarter wine producers in the region and the word Reserva on the label tells you it’s higher up on the Rioja quality ladder than Crianza (meaning it’s aged for a year in barrels and a year in bottle) but not as smart as Gran Reserva (two years in barrels and three in bottle). This particular one is aged for a year and a half in barrels before being left to do its thing in the bottle for another two years before being released. Totally worth the wait.
