Much as I’ve loved drinking rosé in the sun, yelling ‘suncream!’ at the children every now and again, it’s really good to be back. With a jumper on. And I’ve got news.
First up, my new book Homemade Cocktails is out TODAY! Written to help reboot at-home cocktail repertoires, it’s full of recipes for homemade infusions, syrups and shrubs along with a selection of the best classic cocktails and plenty of new ones. And to celebrate, I’ve got 10 copies up for grabs. Maybe I’m stuck in an imagination timewarp but I still love a Margarita on a hot Summer’s evening, the acidity cuts through anything. Then again maybe it’s the 3-2-1 simplicity of making one that appeals!
I love a Negroni, bitter, colourful and hits the spot everytime.
Passion fruit caipirinha!
Soixante Quinze (French Seventy Five) – Named after the French “Canon de 75 modèle 1897”, a ruthless and efficient weapon from the First World War! Gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup and Champagne. Yum.

Oh Lordy. Asking me what my favourite cocktail is, is like asking me which one is my favourite child. Negroni ( always with four pillars spiced Negroni gin) a Caipirinha made the traditional way, with muddled limes, sugar, ice and Brazilian Caipirinha or a Mojito made with decent Rum and piles of mint. Talking of rum, a Dark n Stormy is a great idea, especially with the night’s drawing in……..
*cachça rather than Caipirinha…..

Current favourite cocktail is a Cosmopolitan.
It’s got to be a Moscow Mule, made with Fevertree ginger beer – gives an absolute kick!! Also works well, when made as an non-alcoholic cocktail. 🙂
Brandy Alexander – never tasted a better one than in The Offshore in Newcastle Upon Tyne during my student days. Now drunk in the bath or curled up in front of a roaring fire on a cold and yucky night – Indulgent bliss in a glass!!

Gin Martini, stirred with green olives. A couple of those get a nice wee buzz on to start an evening.
An Old Fashioned from Cafe Kick – nice with its touch of maple syrup.

Rebujito (fino OR manzanilla OR montilla, fresh lemonade, ice and a slice of unwaxed lemon). April Fair in Seville in a glass. Basic but memorable, if I remember rightly…)
