Madiran Reserve des Tuguets

Ridiculously good value red from France, this is a beast in a bottle.  Think Gruffalo, but without the poisonous warts. Rather it’s big and a bit hairy and rough around the edges. But its properly hearty and tastes like something twice the price. Made in part from the Tannat grape, it definitely needs food to soften it up. Roast lamb perfect, bitter dark chocolate also good.

French wines always more interesting-this is a bit wild but much subtle than the Riojas from further south. Washed down my prawn cocktail (!) really well.
