La Meridionale Grenache Mourvedre Tannat

It sounds French but it’s from South Africa, named after the French settlers who turned up in the Western Cape in the 17th century. Made from a blend of three grapes, including the lesser spotted Tannat grape (the one behind the enormous red wines of Madiran in France), along with Grenache and Mourvedre. This one’s less monstrous. with juicy raspberry fruits and a kind of herby edge to it. Brilliant with Question Time. Or sausages.
