A pair of Clarks shoes to be precise. I didn’t realise quite how much of a landmark it was at the time. All I’d done was wander past the shoe shop in town pushing the littlest one in the buggy on the way to the post office when a pair of shoes on the sale rail caught my eye. I went in, tried them on, bought them and left the shop wearing them (I like instant gratification). My mother said she liked my shoes. Thanks, I said, they’re so comfortable…
And that was it. My shift from city/no kids to no-city/kids life. At that moment, I swore to myself: from now on, no fleeces, no anoraks. I now have more than a few of each. But I try not to wear them with the comfortable shoes. That would be giving in.
This week’s white in the fridge:
Zalze Bush Vine Chenin Blanc 2009, South Africa, normally £5.99, currently down to £4.55, Waitrose
Imagine freshly squeezed lemon and lime in your glass, but with the added warmth of alcohol. Fresh, light and uncomplicated, unlike me.
This week’s red on the side:
Tesco Finest Nero d’Avola 2007, Italy, £6.49, Tesco
This wine is like a cuddle, warming and always appreciated. Black fruit gorgeousness, made to be drunk whilst wearing an extra jumper and watching TV. Or reading mildly amusing blogs.
Laters xx
