So, my comfortable sandals have drawn a mix of responses, not all of them entirely complimentary. And the more I look at them, the more they do look a bit, well, comfortable. So I am redressing the balance, with these.
And as Marilyn Monroe once said: “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.” I’m assuming she could walk in hers. I might need to revert to the sandals for the conquering bit.
Current white in the fridge: Sauvignon Blanc Val de Loire 2011, £6.49, M&S
The flavours of Sauvignon Blanc are best enjoyed pure, IMHO. I don’t think oak does it any favours, for example. And sometimes, when they go a bit too fruity (as they can do in very hot countries) you can lose the gooseberry-and-grass characters; the best bits about good Sauvignon, I think. This one is from the spiritual home of Sauvignon Blanc, the Loire Valley. And it is refreshingly simple, with gooseberries and grapefruit flavours. Unpretentious, great value and best of all, perfect patio material. Just add crisps.
Current rose in the fridge: Tesco Finest Domaine de Sours Rose 2011, £7.99, Tesco
At a friend’s birthday lunch today, there was a lot of talk about rose. I was asked which one to stock up on right now, before the weather breaks. I said this one. It’s the one that’s been on the shopping list since that ridiculously huge rose tasting I did last month. Made by a great producer in Bordeaux, this is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and it tastes, deliciously, of redcurrants. Talking of which, check out this brilliant idea for pudding from Crumbs. I plan to make it for the kids. I’ll stick to the wine.
Peace out, winos x
I can't walk in high heels. I have to wear Dr Martens when I'm out for a bit of conquering. That rose sounds lovely.
Ha. Doc Martins were made for conquering! About to order more rose 🙂
As I work from home, high heels are my shoes of choice but the moment I step away from the laptop it's barefoot all the way for me and comfy sandals are just the thing down the beach hut.
M&S Rose on the shopping list.
VERY sensible 😉
OOH splendid…..
Glad you like! I can even walk in them.
If I was in England now, I'd put on my most comfortable shoes and hot-foot it over to Tesco and conquer a bottle of that rosé.
We conquered another couple of bottles of it over the weekend…
Thanks for sharing with us….:-)
