Big night in our village tonight: the Harvest Supper. I was on the ‘young’ table (i.e. six out of eight were under 45) and we were entertained by a singer who made her name singing the hook line for the old Fairy Liquid adverts. Then there was the raffle (notelets & dusty bottle of Hock: check) followed by a walk home under the starriest sky…

Quick glass of white before I went, the current white in the fridge:

Isla Negra Chardonnay, 2008, Tesco, normally £7.59 but bought last week when it was half price
Ripe, pineapple-scented white with tropical fruit flavours. A very safe Chilean bet if you like your Chardonnays ripe & round but not oaky.

Now back home on the sofa, with a glass of red from current red on the side:

Porcupine Ridge Syrah, South Africa, 2008, £6.50ish, Waitrose
I dont usually race to the red section of South African wines, but this is a revelation. A soft, silky red with gorgeous berry fruit and a spicy finish.

Now I’m feeling autumnal. Peace out, winos xx
